Community What's Happening What's On Come along to Cooee Park

Following extensive consultation, the construction of a new family-friend meeting place at Cooee Park will begin shortly and members of the public are invited to come to a community information session at the park between 2pm-3pm on Thursday 27 April 2017 to provide feedback on the design.

Moree Plains Shire Council’s Community Development Officer Dominic Wilcox explained Council has matched a $50,000 grant from the Department of Family and Community Services to turn the undeveloped area (between Cooee St and Jones Ave) into a space that the local community can connect to.

“Last year, Council had a drop-in session at Cooee Park to talk to locals about what they wanted for their space.”

“The majority of people who came supported a community meeting place at Cooee. They really wanted to make sure that it was a place where families could meet: with shade, a BBQ and things for young people to do. The design that we’ve put together is a direct reflection of those local needs, and is a great example of how council and the community can work together to achieve positive change .”

“Council has completed the design and we are ready to start construction. We will be working with local art group Beyond Empathy to ensure that the park has a strong connection to country.”

"Everyone is welcome to come along to our information session to find out more and to mark the start of the development,” encouraged Mr Wilcox.
