Urban Forest - Alternative Plants to Grow in the Garden
Grow Me Instead
The Grow Me Instead campaign is a great industry-driven initiative of the Nursery & Garden Industry NSW & ACT - NGINA - that provides valuable information regarding invasive garden plants.
There is a booklet available that highlights plants that are considered to pose a significant threat to our natural bushland. Gardeners may be unaware that certain plant species can become environmental weeds when they escape from their backyards. Alternative 'look-alike' plants that pose no threat to the bushland, are suggested within the booklet plus other information on the control of weeds. By selecting garden plants carefully, and with advice from local garden centre or nursery, and using the informative Grow Me Instead; you can achieve an environmentally friendly garden. In doing so, you will be helping preserve indigenous plant species and the habitat for native fauna.
