Kickstart Your Career – Take a Look at Council’s School Based Traineeships 

Moree Plains Shire Council is offering 3 School Based Traineeships (SBT) in 2023.

A SBT is a paid opportunity allowing students to gain firsthand industry experience while working towards a qualification that contributes to their HSC.

This is completed on a part-time basis while students still attend school. Meet Grace Schweitzer, one of Council’s School Based Traineeship experts. 👏

Grace was based in our Engineering department during her SBT and worked towards a Cert. III in Business Services. “I really wanted to gain life experience in a work environment and Council provided this opportunity to gain key skills that would support my career in the future”.

Aspiring to be a nurse, Grace feels completing this certificate and working at Council has allowed her to develop the skills needed to manage a high pressured and fast-paced environment which she will most likely experience as a nurse. 👩‍⚕️

“I have developed a number of skills while working that will benefit my future career including teamwork, time management and organisational skills. I’ve even gained some useful digital skills such as typing quickly and accurately, as well as getting confident using scanners, printers and design programs such as Canva".

”Grace’s role has involved a range of administrative duties including assisting with road and cemetery enquiries, managing customer requests, customer service, printing and scanning. 💻

“One project that stands out is assisting with the School Career Expo because I was able to really use my digital skills to help showcase Council’s career opportunities and see my new skills come to life.” ✨

Offering advice to any future students considering a school based traineeship, Grace shares: “It’s great to get the work experience and work alongside fantastic mentors. It’s an opportunity that will put you ahead of your peers.”
