2022 Moree Plains Elders Honour Roll Recipients

The 2022 Moree Plains Elders Honour Roll recipients have been announced.

The Honour Roll recognises Elders—65 years and older and those who have recently passed away—who are helping to build better relationships between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders and the wider Australian community for the benefit of everyone. The Honour Roll is a partnership between Council and the Moree Reconciliation Committee and started in 2017.

RECIPIENTS:
Sister Jan Baker – Is a dedicated nun of the Catholic Church for over 50 years and is community minded in everything she does.
Sylvia Broderick – Is a true community icon and has been involved in many groups like the Moree Evening VIEW Club, Catholic Women’s League of Australia and the Moree Community Choir.
Barrie Brooks – Has been a Moree Lions Club member for 50 years and has received the Melvin Jones Award, an accolade that is the organisation’s highest honour and is recognised worldwide.
Maureen Brosnan – Was heavily involved with the Country Women's Association and even served as the state’s president. She looks out for the older Mungindi community members and helps with their day-to-day needs.
John Doran – Was the president of the Mungindi Home for the Aged and was involved in the Mungindi Music and Drama Society for many years.
Garry Doyle (OAM) – Is a tireless volunteer giving his time to the SES, Mungindi Home for the Aged and the Mungindi History Park, which he continues to maintain the grounds for.
Jo Doyle – Was a founding member and is still a committee member for the Mungindi Home for the Aged.
Pat Doyle – Is involved with St Joseph’s Church and helps set up for Mass.
Judith Duke – “Aunt Judy” was a nurse for many years and her rewarding career allowed her to travel. Since her return, she’s been inspiring others to pursue an occupation in the health sector.
Ann Farey – Has been a loyal and dedicated member of the Weemelah community volunteering her time to the Country Women's Association, Weemelah Public Hall Committee, Anglican Church of Australia and Weemelah Sports Club.
Alf Glass – Was instrumental in fundraising efforts and the construction committee for the Mungindi Home for the Aged in the early 1980s.
Mhora Houston – Has generously donated her time to most organisations in the district, some include the Country Women's Association, Weemelah Public Hall Committee, Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary, Mungindi Show and Mungindi Races.
Berrice Jakins – Is a passionate volunteer for the Mungindi community and continues to be an active member of the Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary and Mungindi Show Society committee.
Lynne James – Has dedicated her time to the Mungindi Fishing Club, ANZAC Day commemorations and the Mungindi Community Op Shop, which she is a founding member of and still volunteers at five days a week.
Jack McPhee – Is a large presence in the Mungindi community and still maintains the Mungindi Border Rifle Club.
Daphne Murray (Decd) – Was a founding member of the Garah-Boomi Pony Club and in 2001 was part of the Moree crafting group that produced the famous quilt that commemorated the Centenary of Federation. Sadly, she passed away in 2020.
Laraine Nolan – Volunteers her time as the Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary’s administrative assistant and as a Moree Care driver.
Anne Smith – Is a Meals on Wheels Australia volunteer driver, a Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary committee member and is involved with the St Joseph’s Church.

Moree Plains Shire Council would like to say thank you and well done to the recipients for their tireless hard work, inspiration and dedication. They are making the Shire a better place to live.
