Inland Rail project team updates Council on progress
The Australian Rail Track Corporation’s (ARTC) Inland Rail project team recently provided the Moree Plains Shire Council with a progress update on the Inland Rail project, which will link Brisbane and Melbourne via Toowoomba, Moree, Parkes and Albury.
Deputy Mayor Cr Stephen Richie was pleased with the presentation saying “Moree Plains Shire Council is committed to help drive the Inland Rail, a nation building infrastructure project that has the potential to reduce freight cost for our farmers, making local producers globally competitive and boosting inland regional economies significantly.”
The Inland Rail project team advised that the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is scheduled for community consideration in November of this year.
Council’s Executive Projects Manager John Carleton explained that the EIS will provide the New England/North West region with a more detailed look at the project details for the construction and operation of this section of the Inland Rail.
“The EIS process is a great opportunity for the public to review the development and provide comment on the Inland Rail project,” said Mr Carleton.
Moree Plains Shire Council has been working closely with the ARTC’s Inland Rail project team to ensure that the final product will reflect priorities of freight customers in the NSW New England/North West region and to involve local communities along the Inland Rail, said Cr Richie.
