Director of Corporate Services: Helping to Build Tomorrow
With large-scale projects and regional development on the go, Moree Plains is expanding. As the Director of Corporate Services, there’s an opportunity to join Council, make an impact, and help shape the future of the whole Shire.
This senior management position will take centre stage in driving Council’s organisational efficiency through developing, implementing, and improving Council business systems. Examining strategic options will ensure corporate services function effectively and that the needs of continued economic growth are met.
A big part of the role is being involved with projects, such as the Special Activation Precinct (SAP). The SAP is a 40-year long initiative to develop Moree’s industries and economy. The Director of Corporate Services will manage Council's financial resources to provide the best opportunities for the SAP to succeed.
The Director of Corporate Services will lead Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan and Community Services with the aim of providing clear actions, responsibilities, timelines, and targets for the Organisation’s commitment to Reconciliation. Since the rollout of the first Reconciliation Action Plan in 2014, Council has seen a strong increase in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees within the Organisation.
Some of the portfolio this role will manage includes libraries, pools, the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre and Gwydir Day Care. Community group inclusion will be the highest priority.
The new Director will be data-driven and have a strong financial skill set, including managing large and complex organisational budgets, legislative compliance, report, and long-term financial planning.
A solid understanding of integrated planning and reporting, including how Council collaborates with external agencies to achieve outcomes, is also required.
Council is looking for an advocate for growth and development who can help lead the direction Council is going in. Even when obstacles and changes are thrown their way, it’s important our new Director will adjust accordingly and influence the rest of Council to follow suit.
Excellent communication skills that foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders are paramount to the success of the role.
The new Director will be an expert in governance and will demonstrate leadership abilities in local government compliance and legal matters.
Not only does this position provide career-defining opportunities, there are also pathways to further their career by stepping up into the General Manager role or CEO.
