Australia Day Public Holiday Event and Services

Thursday 26 January 2023, join us at Jellicoe Park from 8.00am for the Moree Plains’ Australia Day celebrations.

Proudly sponsored by Council, this event brings together the Moree Plains’ community to celebrate our local Australia Day Award recipients, our newest citizens and catch up over a free breakfast BBQ.

As Australia Day is a national public holiday, Council would also like to advise all residents of the following changes to services and facilities on the public holiday on Thursday 26 January 2023. 

Unless otherwise set out below, Council’s services and facilities (including our Customer Service Centre in Moree) will operate as usual over this period.

WASTE SERVICES

Kerbside Garbage, Recycling and Organics Collection

Residents are advised that kerbside garbage and recycling collection will operate as normal for the Australia Day Public Holiday on Thursday 26 January 2023.

Landfills
Moree Waste Management Facility - 9am to 1pm
Biniguy, Boggabilla, Boomi, Garah, Mungindi, Terry Hie Hie  - Closed

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Gwydir Day Care and Preschool
Gwydir Day Care and Preschool will be closed on Thursday 26 January 2023 and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.

Bank Art Museum Moree
The Bank Art Museum Moree will be closed and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.

Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre
The Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre will operate from 9am – 1pm on Thursday 26 January 2023.

Mungindi Municipal Pool
The Mungindi pool will operate 6.30am – 12pm – 3pm – 7pm and will be providing FREE pool entry on Thursday 26 January 2023.

Tourism Moree
Tourism Moree will operate as usual, 9am to 1pm.

Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre
The Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre will be closed and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.

Moree Regional Airport
Moree Regional Airport will operate as usual.

Library Services
The Moree Community Library and Library services in Mungindi will be closed on Thursday 26 January 2023 and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.

Water Filling Station, Moree Depot, Tycannah Street
Council’s Depot including the Water Filling Station will be closed on Thursday 26 January 2023 and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.

Ranger Services
For emergencies, please contact our after-hours service on (02) 6757 3222 to access Ranger Services, the Moree Pound will be closed on Thursday 26 January 2023 and reopen Friday 27 January 2023.
