Mungindi Potable Water Supply – Boil Water Alert and Drop Down to Level 2 Restrictions

(Wednesday 29 January)

With the potable water supply in Mungindi sourced from the Barwon River, current conditions are causing problems with water treatment making drinking water in the Mungindi Potable Water Supply unsafe for drinking.

Level 2 Restrictions are now in place - which allows sprinklers to be used on alternate days from 6am to 9am and 6pm to 9pm on an odds and evens system, based on your street number.

  • Car washing with trigger hose and/or bucket only.
  • Paved and concrete surfaces must not be washed down while water restrictions are in place.
  • Residents are encouraged to wash full loads of clothes – to save water
  • Households with even street numbers to use sprinklers for restricted hours on even dates.
  • Households with odd street numbers to use sprinklers for restricted hours on odd dates.
  • Handheld hoses may be used on gardens at any time.

Urgent works are currently being undertaken at the Mungindi Water Treatment Plant to rectify the treatment of the water.

Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated.

Bottled water or cool boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (e.g. salad vegetables and fruit), making ice, cleaning teeth, gargling and pet’s drinking water.

Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.
