This week, Mayor Cr Susannah Pearse, Cr Dominique Hodgkinson along with General Manager Natalia Cowley have joined local government representatives from around Australia for the 2025 National General Assembly in Canberra.
Council put forward two notices of motions. Both motions were resolved and support the Australian Local Government Association’s policies.
Notice of Motion one
That the Federal Government recognises the strategic national importance of increased investment in regional infrastructure to support local industry, jobs and regional economic and population growth, fund it accordingly.
Notice of Motion two
This National General Assembly calls on the Federal Government take urgent and proactive action to provide an equitable level of services in communication and connectivity across all of Australia.
Madam Mayor spoke to an objection to extra funding exclusively for cities in relation to tourism, events and climate change mitigation, citing that these aren't just urban issues, we rural and regional councils also have to cover these costs.
