Becoming a Councillor

In 2021, Moree Plains Shire Council was made up of 9 Councillors who were elected for 2 years and 9 months term (a reduced term as a result of the 2021 election being rescheduled due to COVID-19).

The last election for the Council of Moree Plains Shire was held on Saturday 4 December 2021.

Local Government elections in New South Wales are normally held every 4 years, with the next local elections being on Saturday 14 September 2024.

Local Government is an elected system of government directly accountable to the local community. All of the elected representatives, known as Councillors, work together to provide good governance for the benefit of their local community.
