Inland Rail Moves into the Detail Design Phase
There will be increased activity along the rail corridor between Narrabri, Moree and North Star over the next 12 months as the Inland Rail project moves into the detail design phase.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has awarded the joint venture between Mott MacDonald and WSP Australia Pty Ltd a contact to provide engineering and design consulting services as well as environmental assessments for the 188km Narrabri to North Star section of the Inland Rail.
ARTC will be making contact with landowners to access properties adjacent to the rail line to allow for site investigations, including surveying and geotechnical investigations.
The construction of the Narrabri to North Star section will include the creation of a new crossing loop; work on level crossings, and new signalling and communications, signage, fencing, services and utilities within the corridor.
Moree Plains Shire Council’s Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries reiterated the Inland Rail is Australia’s largest rail freight infrastructure project.
“Once complete, Inland Rail will help create a stronger economy for Australia, as well as improve safety in local communities.”
“It will complete the backbone of Australia’s national freight network by linking the country’s five largest capital cities, top four agricultural regions and seven major ports,” she said.
