Thinking of nominating as a candidate at the September Local Government Elections?

Members of the public who are interested in becoming a Councillor at the forthcoming Local Government elections on Saturday 4 September 2021 are invited to register for one of two Pre-Election Candidate Briefing Workshops.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to take this opportunity to find out a little more about the roles and responsibilities and what is involved in becoming a Councillor.

The workshops will be held on Thursday 15 July 5.30pm to 8.30pm and Wednesday 21 July, 1pm to 4pm.

These workshops will be conducted remotely with participants able to join in at the Council Committee Room, or from their own home.

“While the remote presentation is not the preferred option, it does give a degree of certainty to the times, dates, and availability of the facilitator in these uncertain times,” said General Manager, Lester Rodgers.

The workshops will be facilitated by Sydney-based Maire Sheehan. Maire has previously held the roles of Mayor and Councillor for several terms at Leichhardt Council and has conducted Councillor workshops for Local Government.

“It is important that candidates understand that Council staff are not permitted to answer enquiries specifically relating to Councillor nomination forms or assist in filling it out election documentation – this must be done through the NSW Electoral Commission,” said Mr Rodgers.

If you would like to register for one of the workshops, download and fill out the Registration Form and return by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or post to PO BOX 420, Moree NSW 2400.
